Me the Scubba Instructor

My three weeks in Maldives were blissful , the only problem i had was in the initial few days when Ramadan was on .I got no food during the day , but i still managed to find a restaurant called Gourmet that served food to foreigners who had arrived in Male . I mainly travelled by taxi which cost me 25 rupiya per ride . From Male to Hulumale i use to travel by ferry which was 10 rupiya for a ride . Hattu the owner of Dive Club Maldives was very generous and gave a a few dives extra .I did around 12 dives in my stint their and also went into the lagoon , where i learnt how to navigate myself in Shallow water . i leant how to remove my regulator a stay underwater also how to remove my mask underwater and how to take my guides regulator and berate when the oxygen tank was switched off .These were important skills i needed to learn in oder to qualify my open water course .

Hussain and my instructor then took me through the written exam also which i cleared easily. I had my lunch at the Jade restaurant in Male , which was where i enjoyed lobsters and other exciting dishes ,like blueberry cheese cake and Shrimp platter . Diving can get very exhausting and for me it was a great meditative experience , seeing the world under the sea . Maldives is an islamic country but i found it to be liberal in many ways .I saw guys with their girl friends chatting in bars or in the park s or going out on the road on motor bikes .

The island is full of mosques and the early call of Azaan invites people to come in for prayers . Alcohol is illegal and in not served with food .

I was not allowed to dive on the last day because i had to fly the next day to Sri Lanka .This is because of the pressure underwater and the pressure one experiences when one is on a plane may cause an imbalance in the body and could lead to a problem.

I had great discussion with Hatthu where i decide that i will promote Scubba Diving to School’s in India . The deal is yet to be inked but we shook hands on it .

One Man's Sanity is another Man's Insanity

One Man’s Sanity is another Man’s Insanity

Learning the finer points of Scubba diving was fun today . i Iearnt how to take the regulator out of my mouth when was underwater . Then i did the bouncy test where i floated in the deal end of the sea and kept bobbing up and down . Dost my instructor also shut the oxygen tank abruptly and i learnt not to panic in this situation and took his regulator and used it to breathe . The oxygen filled in my lungs and everything was fine again . The other skill that i picked up was taking off my mask underwater and still holding on to my breathe . It was a super experience and i enjoyed it immensely , i learnt how to negotiate the choppy sea’s and the bad weather .

Last dive i undertook yesterday i got a star fish in my hand . “ Anuj you cannot take the fish out of the water it is against the law . The fish has to be thrown back into the sea , where it belongs . Two weeks in Maldives are already over .I have passed my written exams and with in two days i will be a qualified instructor . From handling and preparing the Scubba diving equipment to diving into the sea , to the buoyancy test i have passed all the major test’s . Hattu the owner of dive club Maldives is satisfied with my progress and said “ you will be an instructor and a very good one at that anuj .” Maldives culture is islamic , but the people are liberal , although the women her wear head gear , they are warm and friendly . Most people doing menial jobs are from Bangladesh and other such places . They Watch hindi cinema and enjoy indian music . Hattu the owner of the dive club speaks beautiful hindi and has been very encouraging to me . I have decided to sell scubba diving to my friend’s in India and organise school trips for students . This will be a way inn which i can monetise my Travelthon.

Hattu is also very well read and we spoke at length about islam and the cultural differences it has with Hinduism . Religious discussions are the best that get people worked up and it got every one in the office excited . I told them that life is wondrous and “ pone man’s insanity is other man’s sanity .” This was a pearl of a quote that went on my Facebook today . Scubba has really been a great experience for me and i can’t wait to get a certificate and a badge for my work .
